Description
The Hibernate Pullover Make-A-Long (MAL)
Aimee Sher’s Hibernate Pullover is the kind of sweater you’ll want to live in. With its moderate V-neck, clever compound raglan construction, and comfortable armholes, it has that relaxed, cozy fit we love—without being so oversized that you can’t actually put a coat over it!
It’s worked seamlessly from the top down, and one of our favorite things about the pattern is that there are no dreaded “at the same time” instructions. 🙌 Aimee walks you through everything clearly, step by step, making this a sweater you can actually enjoy knitting from cast-on to bind-off.
And can we talk about the pattern itself? Aimee gives you all kinds of tools to help you stay organized and successful, including coloring pages and a row tracker—which I LOVE. It’s obvious that she wants you to finish this sweater just as much as you do.
The Hibernate Pullover is one of those perfect wardrobe staples that takes you from fall, through winter, and right back into spring.
And did I mention that this is my favorite sweater I have EVER made?!
Like…EVER. 💜

Yarn
The designer knit the Patina in 1 skein each Urth 16 (Fingering) and Urth Bonmoher (Lace), held together. We carry both at Needle Nook. Prefer something different? The Patina kerchief is equally stunning paired with alpaca, suri alpaca, or even another mohair—the choice is yours?
Needle Nook yarn suggestions:
- Urth 16 Fingering + Urth Bonmoher- this is what DeAnne is using!
- Urth 16 Fingering + Alpakka Folgetrad (lace)
- Urth 16 Fingering + Freckled Frog Fluff – Suri Alpaca (lace)
- Urth 16 Fingering + Tynn Silk Mohair (lace)
Yarn Purchase Policy: For project-based classes, yarn must be purchased at Needle Nook.
Yarn
The designer recommends holding one strand of fingering-weight yarn and one strand of lace-weight yarn together to create a DK-weight fabric. But you can also use a single strand of DK-weight yarn—as long as you get gauge!
DeAnne knit her Hibernate Pullover in Juniper Moon Farm Rambouillet, a DK-weight yarn, held by itself—and it turned out so beautifully!
Needle Nook yarn suggestions:
- Juniper Moon Farm Rambouillet (DK) — this is what DeAnne used!
- Sandnes Garn Sunday (Fingering) + Alpakka Folgetrad (Lace)
- Urth 16 Fingering + Urth Bonmoher (Lace)
- Malabrigo Sock (Fingering) + Freckled Frog Fluff Suri Alpaca (Lace)
Want to create a different combination? We’re happy to help you put together two yarns—or find a single DK—that will give you the fabric you want. Just remember: gauge is what matters!
Yarn Purchase Policy: For project-based classes and Make-Alongs, yarn must be purchased at Needle Nook.
